If It Were Not for the Bible

Non-believer’s question: Why do you insist on quoting the Bible when you speak about Jesus Christ? Answer: The Bible is the inspired word of God. Answer: I speak for the Lord Jesus Christ, not for myself. Answer: Non-believing man is a dead man walking, spiritually speaking; dead in trespasses and sins. Answer: The Bible is being increasingly compromised by Christians. Answer: The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of….. Hebrews 4:12.

Non-believer’s question: What makes you think you’re better than me? Answer: I am not better than you, I am different than you. The difference: Jesus Christ. I too was once a dead man walking, spiritually speaking, having lived existed that way for 39 years. “Did you have a religious experience?” some people ask. No, I had a reality experience – with the Ultimate Reality. See my About page and post: But they still have a godAnd you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins Ephesians 2:1. That is one primary reason why I quote the Bible; it confirms all my experiences in Christ. The word of man is not capable of that. That’s why, It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man Psalm 118:8.

If it were not for the Bible we would have no way of knowing who God is; which makes it doubly sad when people ignore that Book in their search for Him. If they did not, they would be delivered from their false concepts and godless imaginations of Him, plus all the slavish superstitions they religiously cling to. I am the LORD your God…… You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them…… Exodus 20:1-5; Deuteronomy 5:6-9. People ask, what about all the other religions and their books? Based on the above Scripture: What about them?

If it were not for the Bible we would have no way of knowing the attributes of God. He is eternal, sovereign, immortal, infinite, immutable, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, righteous, just, holy, merciful, loving, gracious, patient, forgiving and kind. It is then no wonder Christians will sing or pray, To God our Savior, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever Jude 25. We do so not for religious reasons, but for relational reasons. For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart Jeremiah 29:11-13.

If it were not for the Bible we would have no way of knowing we can have permanent release from guilt, plus the on-going anger, frustration, fear and bitterness which are the by-products of guilt. Imagine such a release in a society; peace in the homes and work places, fewer medical people required, fewer hospitals, less dependency on drugs both legal and illegal. Difficult to imagine, certainly; but that is and always has been the reality for those who received permanent release from their guilt. How come? They discovered the God of the Bible is Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. They took their guilt to Him and the reasons for it, and He forgave them and set them free. That is why the Gospel of Christ is called the Good News.

If it were not for the Bible we would have no way of knowing who speaks for God and who doesn’t. Who doesn’t, then? All religious leaders and people who quote Scriptures from the Bible, but deliberately out of context so as to make them fit their personal doctrinal hobby-horses. All religious leaders and people who deny the deity of Jesus Christ. All religious leaders and people who don’t deny the deity of Jesus Christ, but elevate His earthly mother, Mary, to a higher status than Jesus. All religious leaders and people who no longer believe they are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me John 14:6.

If it were not for the Bible we would have no way of knowing Jesus Christ is the Creator of the earth and universe. Which in turn means, we would have no way of knowing the theory of evolution is simply that – a theory. Worse: it’s a theory birthed from hell! “The world is my country, science is my religion.” – Christiaan Huygens. No doubt Meneer Huygens was an extremely clever man, but if he died clinging to that belief he was an extremely unwise man. Much wiser was the man who said, “A little science estranges a man from God; a lot of science brings him back.” Whether it was Francis Bacon who said it matters little; it is a truth attested by former atheist scientists both past and present. The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” Psalm 14:1.

Jesus Christ, the Creator: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth Genesis 1:1. All things were made through Him (Jesus), and without Him nothing was made John 1:3. He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God…… For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on the earth, visible and invisible…… All things were created through Him and for Him Colossians 1:15-16. God……has in these last days spoken to us by His Son,……through whom also He made the worlds;……and upholding all things by the word of His power…… Hebrews 1:1-3. Two Creators then? No, one Creator – one God! Not a delegated power either. “God cannot delegate his omnipotence to another.” – Adam Clarke

If it were not for the Bible we would have no way of knowing God is in complete control in all world events. Nothing happens without His knowledge and permission. War and famine, terror, disaster, criminal activity in high places, nothing bypasses Him. The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good Proverbs 15:3. And there is nothing hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account Hebrews 4:13. Now that’s bad news for one who will not believe, but good news for one who does, or will believe. God has lifted the burdens of fear, worry and anxiety off the shoulders of the latter and onto Himself. That is why Fear not or Be not afraid is frequently to be found within its pages.

If it were not for the Bible we would have no way of knowing that not only did Jesus Christ once come to earth as Savior and Redeemer, but He’s coming a second time as Ruler and Judge. Once again, that’s bad news for one who will not believe, but good news for one who does, or will believe. That’s another primary reason why I quote the Bible. People must hear this message and embrace it if they want to avoid His forthcoming judgment, plus the one at the Great White Throne following Christ’s millennial earthly reign. Now, most people’s response to this (at least a printable response!) is, “I don’t believe your nonsense!” And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained of God to be Judge of the living and……. Acts 10:41.

If it were not for the Bible we would have no way of knowing that there is only one unforgivable sin.- one! It is to continually resist the Holy Spirit’s conviction of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment John 16:8, and die in that state of unbelief. Think of the worst sin imaginable; it is totally forgivable, but only if sincerely repented of before God in the name of Jesus Christ. The promise of God about this is made clear, but so too, the choice! He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; but he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him John 3:36. Wrath – that’s another attribute of God. Wiser by far is the person who spends his or her eternity loving God than the one who spends his or her eternity hating Him.

Non-believer’s question: How do I speak to God about my sins? Answer: Speak from your heart. Words are not the issue; the state of your heart is the issue. If it is contrite and repentant, God will give you words to say. How do I know this? If it were not for the Bible I would not know it! That was the Book that revealed to me I was a dead man walking, spiritually speaking. I didn’t find that out until some time after my life-changing encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ, but it certainly explained all reasons for my god-less thinking, behavior and lifestyle up until that point. It explains all reasons for everybody else’s as well. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! Mark 4:9. If we confess (acknowledge) our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9.
