Why are Bible Christians mocked and ridiculed for their beliefs but people of other beliefs are not mocked or ridiculed for theirs? Answer: The Bible is the only Book to accurately reveal and proclaim the nature and character of Jesus Christ. We stand on that alone, thereby rejecting all extra-biblical writings and religious traditions. Why our rejections? They add nothing to the true nature and character of the Lord Jesus, but rather, they take from it. Taking from the former but adding from the latter is the primary cause of people worshiping a Jesus of their own or somebody else’s creation.
Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me John 14:6. For someone unwilling to face the truth about their internal moral condition before God, there is no greater threat to them than that Scripture. So when we see the Joy Behar’s of the world mocking a Bible Christian such as USA Vice President Mike Pence, we know we’re looking at and listening to a highly threatened person – one running from God. Apparently Ms Behar is of Italian descent, born into a Roman Catholic family. That may explain her beliefs about Jesus. Practicing Roman Catholic or not, knowledge of her Church’s extra-biblical writings and Traditions over and above her Bible knowledge could be one reason for her mockery.
For the reader who thinks this is Catholic-bashing, not so, but I’ll leave that with you to take up with the Lord in any case. When Jesus tells us He is the way, He’s saying there is no other way; not to God, not to forgiveness, not to salvation. When Jesus tells us He is the truth, He’s saying He’s THE truth, not a truth. That means all that fails the test of biblical scrutiny is not the truth. When Jesus tells us He is the life, He’s saying He is the Source of all life, natural, supernatural and eternal. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life…… Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you John 6:47-48; 53. No, Jesus is not suggesting any form of cannibalism!
Fear causes people to mock and ridicule Bible Christians for their beliefs. Such people intuitively know that if they were to encounter God and receive Jesus Christ they would be extremely inconvenienced. They know it would mean for them a dramatic change in their thinking and the way they currently live. Quote: “It is a combination of intellectual and moral cowardice which makes us hesitate. We do not find because we do not seek. We do not seek because we do not want to find. And the way to be certain of not finding, is not to seek.” – John R Stott. Fear of other’s thoughts and opinions if one were to receive Christ fits the same bill. The fear of man brings a snare Proverbs 29:25. Imprisonment to the thoughts and opinions of others is not life, it’s death!
Bible Christians are mocked and ridiculed for their beliefs because the Bible is viewed by many who mock and ridicule, as a book of fiction, fairy tales, myths and legends used to explain things that illiterate, ignorant, unenlightened people of past times could not understand. “Ignorant” and “unenlightened” have always been favorite put-downs of the “learned” and “enlightened” as have been, “fundamentalist” “judgmental” “self-righteous” and “superstitious.” What’s God’s response? I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 1 Corinthians 1:19-21.
Based on the above Scripture the Bible remains a closed Book to the wise, the prudent the scribe, the disputer and every other spiritually dead critic like them. Although they pride themselves for their cleverness and sophistication, such people are to be genuinely pitied. Why? God calls them fools, and He has nothing good to say about the fool. The former is mentioned 42 times; the latter is mentioned 73 times. A fool has no delight in understanding, but in expressing his own heart Proverbs 18:2. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction Proverbs 1:7. One can understand the writings of the great philosophers with the natural mind but not the writings of the Bible. For that, one needs a supernatural mind.
Bible Christians are the only people in possession of such a mind. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “Who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ 1 Corinthians 2:14-16. (Underlines mine). It is no wonder we’re mocked and ridiculed for our beliefs. Mockers and ridiculers can have the mind of Christ too, but only on God’s terms, not their terms. What are God’s terms? One has to have a spiritual rebirth; be born of and filled with the Holy Spirit, our Bible Teacher.
Jesus said, Most assuredly, I say to you unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God…. he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit John 3:3-6. Quote: “All sin exposes men to misery here and hereafter. To escape from sin, it is necessary that man should be changed in his principles, feelings, and manner of life. The beginning of this new life is called the “new birth,” or “regeneration.” It is the beginning of spiritual life. It introduces us to the light of the gospel. It is the moment when we really begin to live to any purpose. It is the moment when God reveals Himself to us as our reconciled Father, and we are adopted into His family as His sons.” – Albert Barnes.
Bible Christians are mocked and ridiculed for their beliefs because not only do we preach the good news of heaven for the repentant, but also the bad news of hell for the non-repentant. We’re in grand company however, because Jesus did the same thing. That’s a primary reason why He was mocked and ridiculed. Worse: It was the preaching of hell to religious and non-religious people alike that helped get Him killed. That’s what helped the apostles get killed too, plus the millions of His followers down through history from that time. Few there are who don’t react to the gospel proclamation of Christ; some react by getting converted, most react by getting hostile. But all praise to God and none to us, even a remnant of those get converted down the track too!
Bible Christians are mocked and ridiculed for their beliefs because they’re the only ones in possession of a blessed assurance for the present and for the future. Even Pope Francis ridicules us for that! That’s why we reject the word of every religious man or woman whose teaching fails the test of biblical scrutiny, no matter who they claim to be. Assuredly I say to you, Jesus said. Most assuredly I say to you…… Verily I say unto you…… Verily, verily I say unto you…… One can’t be assured any more than that; that’s the ultimate in blessed assurance. Not only do people mock and ridicule Bible Christians for possessing such an assurance, they kill them for it too when they know the authorities will turn a blind eye to it.
And turn a blind eye they will in earnest, once the much mocked and ridiculed future Great Tribulation gets under way. In other words, when Jesus removes the Church from the earth in what’s known as the Rapture (also much mocked and ridiculed), the wrath of God will then be poured out in judgment upon the unbelieving, the godless, the rebellious, the lawless etc. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been seen since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be Matthew 24:21. Multitudes will believe the gospel during this time and turn to Jesus Christ. The Lord will receive them all, but most of them will be murdered for placing their faith in Him, at the hands of mockers and ridiculers.
When Jesus was dying on the cross, He prayed for all those who mocked, ridiculed and killed Him. Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do Luke 23:34. That is to be our prayer too as Bible Christians. Those mocking and ridiculing us do not know what they do either. However, the demonic spirits influencing them know – spirits of pride, hatred, envy, jealousy, fear, religion and blasphemy; they know all too well why. These are the demonic spirits Jesus defeated when He died and rose again, these and all others like them. When God has finished with these demons, they’re all headed for hell too. My prayer for those who mock and ridicule is that they would get released from these spirits and receive the Holy Spirit. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake Matthew 5:11.
