Reality Revelations

Testimonies to the practical reality, revelations and power of Jesus Christ in people's lives.

Where did that come from?

One of the most common “mantras” I’ve discovered in society is, “If God is so all-loving and all-powerful, why does He allow war, suffering, starvation etc etc?”  Many people who asked me this on the streets did not want my biblical answer, they used it only to justify their own position or stand in life.  Even if they worked hard at Read the rest of this entry »

Just about everybody was an expert.

Posted by Roger Williams

In the three and a half years I ministered as a public messenger of the Christian gospel, it seemed that just about everybody was an expert when it came to the Bible.  To the clever and the sophisticated, it was a book of out-dated ancient literature used by the religious, the political or otherwise, to control the ignorant, the superstitious or otherwise.  To the not-so-clever and the not-so- sophisticated, it was, “one of a number of books that contained a few truths and guidelines for mankind to live by, but written only by men.”  To others who had no clue as to Read the rest of this entry »

You’ve opened my eyes today.

Leila was a Ukrainian lady in her early seventies who used to love coming to our church services on a Sunday morning after attending mass at her Ukrainian Catholic church, which was just a few hundred meters up the street.  She was proud of the fact that she attended two services and participated in, “two holy communions today.”  Doing such, gave her the (misguided) belief that this practice would make God very pleased with her and that it would also bring her closer to Him.  In other words, Leila thought that if she wanted to get to heaven, then she’d better work hard at it so God would be impressed with her efforts. Jesus couldn’t possibly exist.

I was walking along the street when Maria stepped out from her gate to place something in her rubbish bin which was sitting on the strip awaiting collection.  We had not met previously, but I knew who she was and her name.  She and her husband had lost a daughter in a well-publicised multiple murder incident just under two years earlier. It’s just not fair!

The moment I mentioned that I was from a local church, Mrs Stark expressed immediate anger.  Standing in her doorway she told me in no uncertain terms that she was not interested in God or, “any of you people who say you believe in Him!”  Not only was this the voice of an angry woman but more importantly, I heard the voice of a hurting woman. How can you speak for God?!

P1030690 (2)My first meeting with Bill, standing at his door lasted half an hour.  He told me he saw the world as being in such a mess that there was no hope for it.  At the time, the first Gulf war was on and economically things were rather bleak for a lot of people, including Bill who was bricklayer by trade, but currently out of work.  As he expressed his thoughts and opinions on life, violence and corruptions etc, it became obvious that this man was a thinker, quite different from some whom I’d met who would take advantage of this time simply to emotionally, complain and blame. I’ve got lots of bitterness and unforgiveness.

The day I called at Mrs Bell’s house and gave her the reason for my visit, tears came into her eyes and she said, “It was two years ago today since my husband died and I know God has sent you, I’ve been feeling down all day.”  She told me she and her daughter were both baptised but she didn’t often, “go to church.”  Nevertheless she asked me to pray for them, as well as her son, “who has gone away from God.”  Both children were now in their thirties. He spoke of his doubts in Christ’s forgiveness.

The church fellowship I was associated with during the time of my street ministry very quickly developed a reputation for it’s sound Biblical teaching and workings of God in the community.  As a result, Christians from other churches became regular visitors.  Many such visitors then became committed members, whilst others, although not as committed, nevertheless were regular attenders among us.  One such man was Dan – a single man in his late 50’s. Don’t talk to me about a loving God!

One day a young married mother-to-be came to the door and she had one of the most tragic stories I have ever heard since doing this work.  Upon introducing myself and explaining the purpose of the visit, a fierce anger came into her eyes and flashed across her face and she told me I was wasting my time in speaking with her.
