The day I took a stand to reject the “religious” Jesus Christ of my imagination and embrace the biblical Lord Jesus Christ of truth, is the day I knew I would come under much sniggering, mockery, insults and abuse from unbelieving people, but I was not expecting the same from people who claimed to be Christian. The venom spewed Read the rest of this entry »

A middle-aged church-going man asked me, “Why is your church marketing itself like a business?” I replied by informing him that rather than “marketing” ourselves, we were in fact, fulfilling the biblical command of Christ, who told us “go” not “come.” In other words, our commitment was to go and tell people about Jesus Christ and what He has done for each one of us, not compel them to come to church to be told that. At the Read the rest of this entry »

I suppose the number of church-affiliated people who told me that they believed in God, in comparison to the non-church-affiliated who said they did not, could have been as high as ninety-five percent. That figure is purely a guess on my part. In any case, I was quick to learn that it did not really matter. Of those ninety-five percent of people, perhaps eighty percent could Read the rest of this entry »

In the three and a half years I ministered as a public messenger of the Christian gospel, it seemed that just about everybody was an expert when it came to the Bible. To the clever and the sophisticated, it was a book of out-dated ancient literature used by the religious, the political or otherwise, to control the ignorant, the superstitious or otherwise. To the not-so-clever and the not-so- sophisticated, it was, “one of a number of books that contained a few truths and guidelines for mankind to live by, but written only by men.” To others who had no clue as to Read the rest of this entry »

The first time I spoke with Helen it was not face to face. We communicated through her locked security front door. Helen told me she’d had a stroke some thirteen years earlier, leaving one side of her body paralysed and she was now confined to a wheelchair. But on that particular day she was in bed and not able to come to the door. So I gave her the reason for my visit and then asked her if she believed in Jesus Christ. She said she had very strong doubts, but was in any case, “not really interested in religion.” I told her that we had something in common, because, “neither am I.” Read the rest of this entry »

It was pouring with rain as I stood at the doorstep under my umbrella talking with the man. Perhaps in his early thirties, he told me he’d done a lot of reading in recent times and was very proud to tell me that he’d, “read the Bible from cover to cover.” However, he said that he couldn’t understand it’s relevance for him personally since he was not a Jew or a Christian. I explained to him that the Bible is not an academic book, but rather, it is a spiritual book, and as such, one must be, “born again” to grasp insights into what God wants to communicate to us. One day I rang the door bell of a home and when the two men who answered the door learned the reason for my visit, one said, “Just a moment please.” With that they briskly walked back down the hallway calling the name of another person inside. I distinctly heard the words, “There’s someone who wants to talk to you.” Read the rest of this entry »

A young man in his mid-twenties came to the door and when he was informed of the purpose of my visit he told me he was a communist from Yugoslavia. Then he said, “I could be Jesus.” I told him that was not possible, so he asked me, “Why not?” I explained that Jesus was not a communist nor was He from Yugoslavia. I then went on to say that if he really was Jesus, then he’d be doing the work Jesus said He would be doing when He returns. Read the rest of this entry »

The day I knocked on Errol’s door, immediately he said, “Come in. I’ve been waiting for you. If you want to know anything about the Bible, talk to me. I can tell you all about the Bible.”
He took me into his study and then asked his wife to make us all a cup of tea. As she was doing so, he enthusiastically proceeded to ask me my thoughts about the accuracy and the validity of the Bible. I responded by saying that in my personal experience, it was everything it claimed to be – the word of God, who has revealed Himself to all mankind in Jesus Christ and that if we embrace its revelations by faith, it will transform our lives. The day I called at Mrs Bell’s house and gave her the reason for my visit, tears came into her eyes and she said, “It was two years ago today since my husband died and I know God has sent you, I’ve been feeling down all day.” She told me she and her daughter were both baptised but she didn’t often, “go to church.” Nevertheless she asked me to pray for them, as well as her son, “who has gone away from God.” Both children were now in their thirties.
